running the inspector

I'd like to run the inspector (in 3.1). I'm having problems. If I
try to run the demo "inspector.stk" I get "inspect" unknown. If I
(require "inspect-main") first then I get the error

*** Error at line 23 of file ./inspector.stk:
Bad number in a comparison: ((winfo (quote exist) inspector_widget_name) 0)

Any clues or help would be appreciated.
