Compiling 2.1.7 on Irix 5.2

Two questions for the list.

1. I am attempting to compile 2.1.7 on Irix 5.2 with the prodev
(i.e. standard) development environment and it immediately
blows out with a compiler error regarding incompatibilities between
structures time of day. Any ideas?

2. Should I be running a later version, such as 3.? beta? If so, where
do I get it?
