Adding types to STk (via C functions)?

I'm adding a GDBM interface to STk. I would like to have a stk
function return an opaque type (GDMB_FILE) for use as an argument to
other stk functions. How do I do it?

I assume that I have to be concerned with garbage collection in some
way.
