Ranlib for Irix 5.3

I am compiling STk 3.0 on Irix 5.3 using the distributed C compiler
and the free math package. It complains, as indeed it should,
that "ranlib" is missing. How odd. Is this a mistake of my distribution,
or does anyone have an idea here?
