Tk4.0 beta is out. Has anyone tested it with STk?
Tk4.0 beta has just been released. Alot of changes have been made.
Many are incompatible with the last version of Tk. We'd better test
the beta version with STk as soon as possible, as per John

Today's releases of Tk4.0b1 and Tcl7.4b1 are the first of what
will probably be three or four beta releases over the next few
months. The final Tk4.0 and Tcl7.4 releases will probably appear
around March or April of 1995. If you're risk averse then you may
prefer to wait for the final releases, or at least for later beta
releases.
On the other hand, it's important that as many people as possible
test out the beta releases as soon as possible so that we can locate
and fix the bugs. Once the final Tk 4.0 release comes out it will be
much harder to fix bugs. If a bug fix requires an incompatible change,
it will have to be made very soon, probably in Tk4.0b2; once Tk 4.0
appears, no more incompatible changes will be possible until Tk 5.0,
which is probably years away.
So, please try out the new releases soon, even if you just try them
enough to find one or two problems to report. I hope that the mass of
new features in Tk will compensate for the incompatibilities and bugs
in the beta releases.
By the way, I will be away from my workstation from Christmas through
New Years, so I won't be able to respond to mail or fix bugs in the new
releases until January 3, 1995.
